How Power Scales Work

Baseline: Pre-System Reality

Before the System's arrival, normal humans could only reach a maximum peak of 10 in any stat. This represents the absolute pinnacle of natural human capability - Olympic athletes, genius-level intellects, master craftspeople, and legendary heroes of old.

Post-System Power Scaling

The System fundamentally changes what's possible by allowing beings to transcend natural limitations through these milestone levels:

Stats: Each milestone level creates a qualitative gain that fundamentally changes what that level of capability means. The difference between Strength 9 and Strength 10 is the gap between "very strong" and "peak human strength." The difference between Strength 10 and Strength 25 is the gap between "peak human" and "superhuman."

Skills: Reaching milestone levels grants profound insights into how the skill works and reveals ways to evolve it into more powerful versions. A skill at level 25 doesn't just mean "better at the task" - it means understanding the skill at a fundamental level that opens new possibilities.

Spells: Milestone achievements in spell mastery unlock deeper understanding of magical principles, potentially allowing evolution into more potent or refined versions of Magecraft, Thaumaturgy, or Witchcraft.

Classes: Under the right conditions, classes can evolve or transform when reaching certain milestone levels, representing a character's mastery growing beyond the original framework through the Path System.

Power Level Reference Scale

Using individual stats as a guide, the world operates on these broad tiers of capability:

  • 1-10: Natural Tier - Pre-System human range, from ordinary people to legendary heroes
  • 10-100: Enhanced Tier - System-empowered individuals, exceptional adventurers
  • 100-250: Heroic Tier - Regional champions, figures of legend
  • 250-500: Legendary Tier - World-shaping heroes, mythic figures
  • 500+: Mythic Tier - Reality-affecting beings, forces of nature

Each tier represents not just numerical increases, but fundamental qualitative differences in what that level of power means for the individual and the world around them.

Design Philosophy

The milestone system ensures that advancement remains meaningful throughout the entire power spectrum. Rather than linear progression that becomes numerically unwieldy, each milestone represents a genuine breakthrough - a moment where quantity becomes quality, where accumulation becomes transformation.

This creates natural breakpoints for character development and campaign structure through the Path System and Path Point advancement, while maintaining the fundamental truth that in System RPG, there are always higher peaks to climb. Scene Orchestrators can use these tiers to structure campaigns and scale challenges appropriately to character capabilities.

The milestone system integrates seamlessly with all aspects of character advancement, from Stats and Skills development to Path progression and magical mastery across Magecraft, Thaumaturgy, and Witchcraft disciplines.
