Your First Steps: Character Creation
Welcome, Player. Creating your character is a simple process of answering a few questions about who they are. Don't worry about stats or numbers yet; focus on the concept.
Step 1: Name & Concept
Before anything else, what is your character's name?
With a name in mind, think about their "Origin Concept." This is the core of who they are. What was their life like before they became aware of The System? Were they a baker, a soldier, a scholar, a thief? This doesn't need to be a detailed backstory, just a sentence or two to give you and your Scene Orchestrator a starting point.
Example: My character is Jax, a cynical ex-guard who now works as a caravan drover.
Step 2: Choose Your Species
Next, what is your character's species? In many worlds, you might be a Human. In others, you could be an Elf, a Cyborg, or something far more exotic. Your Scene Orchestrator will tell you what options are available for your specific game. For now, just know that this choice will grant you unique starting abilities.
Step 3: Answer the Paradigm Questions
Your character's core identity is defined by how they approach the world. Answer the following two questions. Your answers will guide the Scene Orchestrator in assigning your starting statistics.
Question 1: The Focus Axis - Where do you concentrate your development?
- Physical: Do you focus on your body and physical prowess? (Warriors, athletes, laborers)
- Mental: Do you focus on your mind and intellectual capabilities? (Scholars, tacticians, investigators)
- Balanced: Do you strive for equilibrium between body and mind? (Leaders, diplomats, adaptable generalists)
Question 2: The Crisis Response Axis - How do you instinctively react under pressure?
- Defense: Is your first instinct to protect, preserve, and endure? (Guardians, healers, sentinels)
- Action: Is your first instinct to attack, advance, and overcome? (Warriors, pioneers, innovators)
- Support: Is your first instinct to enable, assist, and create opportunities for others? (Coordinators, facilitators, medics)
Step 4: You're Ready!
That's it. Give your answers to your Scene Orchestrator. They will use your Name, Concept, Species, and Paradigm choices to generate your starting character sheet for your first session. You will learn the rest as you play.
