Paths as Self-Definition

Each Path represents an ideal about yourself. As you collect them, you refine your idea of yourself and how the power that flows to and through you from the System is shaped and influences the world.

The Nature of Paths

Paths are more than mechanical progression—they are:

• Statements of Identity: Each Path taken declares something about who your character is
• Channels of Power: They shape how the System's energy manifests through you
• Tests of Commitment: Some Paths demand sacrifices or difficult choices
• Records of Journey: Your Path collection tells the story of your character's growth

Meaningful Choices Beyond Numbers

While many Paths provide stat bonuses, their true value lies in:

• Narrative Weight: The Path of Carnage isn't just +Strength, it's a bloody road of violence
• Synergistic Potential: Certain Path combinations unlock unique possibilities
• Philosophical Alignment: Paths like Heretic or Oathbreaker define your relationship with the System

The Collection Effect

As characters accumulate Paths:

False Paths and True Growth

The System's "trap options" serve a purpose:

• They test discernment and wisdom

Path Synergy and Identity

Your Path collection creates a unique identity:

• A character with Monster Slayer + Tireless + Grace Paths tells a different story than one with Path of Carnage + Heretic + Oathbreaker
• The combination defines not just capabilities but character essence
• NPCs and the world may react differently based on your Path "signature"
